The Wardle Family YMCA of Beaufort County exists to serve the needs of its community, but we could not address these needs without collaborators.
Community Corner: The Beaufort-Jasper YMCA of the Lowcountry is proud to partner with many local organizations and fellow non-profits. At least once per quarter we will highlight one of our community partners here and in our monthly e-newsletter.
Our first is Sea Island Rotary Club and its’ upcoming Adventure Biathlon! The Sea Island Rotary Club was chartered on March 19, 1980 and has grown to a membership of more than 85 men and women representing most industries in northern Beaufort County, SC. The Club is committed to working with youth, helping our community and playing an active part in Rotary’s International Community Service Projects. Sea Island Rotary also hosts a couple of very popular events in our area – the Charity Shrimp Race held in conjunction with the Beaufort Shrimp Festival and the Hunting Island Adventure Biathlon Race at Hunting Island State Park, SC held every spring.
This year’s biathlon is on Saturday, March 17 and back at Hunting Island State Park!
The Biathlon is a 5 to 6-mile paddle (kayak or SUP) and a 3.6-mile run. Athletes can
complete the course in Teams, where one paddles and the other runs – a Relay Team.
Athletes also have the option to race as a team in a tandem kayak and then run the
course together called a tandem team – they must finish together.
This race has grown substantially over the past 10 years into one of the Southeast’s
premiere Adventure Kayak/Run Biathlons. Athletes travel from other countries just to participate in this local favorite event. This event averages about 180 athletes who compete in a variety of award categories for great prizes.
– Thank You – Thank You – Thank You – Thank You –
A huge THANK-YOU goes out to these organizations who so graciously donate their time, expertise, and financial support to help us better serve the Beaufort County area.
